James 2:17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. It is said that the basic difference between Christianity and other religion is the difference between faith and action. In other religions, a man could find and reach a god by doing good deeds to other people. However, the Christianity is not like other religions. There is no one who understands, no one who seeks God, therefore, God came first to a man(Rom 3:11). In Eden, God came to fallen humans, Adam and Eve. Since then, He also came to many prophets in Old Testament era. He first chose people to let them know about His will. Most importantly, He sent His only Son Jesus Christ to the world as a human. He cleansed our sins by dying on the cross, resurrecting from the death, and ascending to the Heaven. That is His ultimate love to us.If you believe that Jesus forgives your sins by paying them on the cross(redemption), the forgiveness and eternal life will be given to you. In other words, believing Jesus is the only way to be saved. Other than that there is no salvation. Unfortunately, many Christians believe that getting eternal life is the prime purpose for their lives as Christians. But, glorifying God by our lives is our goal of Christian life. Expecting benefits, such as material prosperity or health, from God is not a goal of sincere Christians. The Gospels clearly emphasize the faith in action(James 2:24). James teaches us how Christians are supposed to live with neighbors in the world(James 2:15, 16). Believing God means acting His love. Faith literally means "confidence", or "trust" as a noun, and "believe", "confide in", "depend", or "obey" as a verb. Therefore, faith in Christianity means obeying, depending, and trusting God and His words and covenants. Therefore, the Bible tells us that without faith, it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exits and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him(Heb 11:6).Many Christians believe faith is only for their salvation. However, genuine faith is faith in action and faith with good deeds. In Martin Luther's words, a man is justified and declared righteous before God by faith alone(Rom 5:1). Clarifying what the real faith is, James teaches us that faith and deeds cannot exist independently of each other. He tells us that genuine faith will produce good deeds.
