Love
from 1 Corinthians 13
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.
내가 인간의 여러 언어를 말하고 천사의 말을 한다 하더라도, 사랑이 없으면 나는 단지 울리는 징이나 요란한 꽹과리에 불과합니다. 내가 예언하는 능력이 있고, 모든 비밀과 지식을 파악할 수 있을지라도 그리고 내가 산을 옮길 만한 믿음이 있어도, 사랑이 없으면 나는 아무것도 아닙니다. 내가 가진 모든 것을 가난한 자들에게 나누어 주고 내몸을 불사르게 내어줄지라도 사랑이 없으면 내게는 아무 소용이 없습니다.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
사랑은 오래 참고, 사랑은 친절합니다. 사랑은 시기하지 않고, 자랑하지 않으며, 교만하지 않습니다. 사랑은 무례하지 않고 사욕을 품지 않으며 쉽게 성내지 않고, 앙심을 품지 않습니다. 사랑은 불의를 기뻐하지 않고 진리와 함께 기뻐합니다. 사랑은 모든 것을 덮어 주고, 모든 것을 믿으며, 모든 것을 바라고, 모든 것을 견디어 냅니다.
Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror, then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
사랑은 없어지지 않습니다. 하지만 예언이 있는 곳에, 예언이 그칠 것이며, 방언이 있는 곳에, 방언이 그칠 것이며; 지식이 있는 곳에, 지식이 사라질 것입니다. 우리는 부분적으로 알고 부분적으로 예언하지만 완전한 것이 오면, 불완전한 것은 사라집니다. 내가 어렸을 때에는 말하는 것이 어린 아이와 같고 `생각하는 것이 어린아이와 같고, 판단하는 것이 어린 아이와 같았습니다. 그러나 어른이 되어서는 어린 아이의 방식을 버렸습니다. 지금은 우리가 거울로 비추어 보듯 희미하게 보지만; 그때에는 얼굴울 맞대고 볼 것입니다. 지금은 내가 불완전하게 아나; 그때에는 하나님께서 나를 완전하게 아시듯이 내가 완전하게 알 게 될 것입니다.
And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. (from the NIV)
그런즉 믿음, 소망, 사랑 이 세가지는 항상 남아 있을 것입니다. 하지만 그 중에서 가장 위대한 것은 사랑입니다.
